Pa. woman injured in 1-car accident

ROXBURY, Pa. - An Orrstown, Pa., woman remains in serious condition at York Hospital after a one-vehicle accident at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Susanne Marie Batzel, 28, was driving a 1983 Chevrolet Celebrity west on Pa. 641 near Roxbury when a witness said the vehicle crossed the center line into the eastbound lane, according to police.

The car then hit a wooden guard rail with the left front end and began to flip, police said. Batzel was thrown from the car through the open driver's side window, police said.


The car came to rest on its roof with a passenger, Edward Shirk, 43, of Carlisle, Pa., still inside, police said.

Shirk received cuts on his arm and had shoulder pain, police said.

Batzel was taken to Chambersburg Hospital and then flown to York Hospital.

Airplane tampering investigation closed

FREDERICK, Md. - Investigators have determined that an airplane was not tampered with as originally thought, the Frederick Police Department said Wednesday.

On Aug. 6, police launched an investigation into the possible tampering. Authorities believed that a foreign substance may have been placed in the plane's engine. The pistons were sent to the Maryland State Police Crime Laboratory for analysis.

The results of the analysis identified the substance as a combination of lead and bromine. Since no sand or any other foreign substance was found, police have concluded the investigation.

Theft of long guns under investigation

Washington County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a theft reported Tuesday of two long guns, valued at $3,000, from a Cearfoss home.

One of the guns is a Remington 25.06. The make of the other is unknown.

Airport Inn reports theft of $1,200

The theft of $1,200 was reported Tuesday from The Airport Inn, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

It wasn't known from where the money was taken.

Moped stolen from Clear Spring yard

A red Safari moped valued at $350 was taken from the front of 14015 Rockdale Road near Clear Spring Tuesday, Maryland State Police said.

The owner told troopers the moped was in the front yard, posted for sale, and chained.
