Armed robbery at liquor store

Hagerstown City Police were searching for an armed robber of a liquor store about 10:20 p.m. Friday night.

The robber was described as a white male, about 6-foot-1 or 6-foot-2, about 40 years old and wearing a ball cap, dark pants and a blue/green plaid shirt, said Sgt. Jack Hall. He was carrying an automatic gun, Hall said.

Hall would not say how much money was stolen from Roxy Liquors at 287 Frederick St.

No one was injured. There was one clerk in the store at the time, Hall said.

House fire on Gilardi Road

BOONSBORO- The rear of a two-story house on Gilardi Road was severly damaged by fire Friday night.

Charles Sigler said he was putting the dog out about 10:15 p.m. when he noticed smoke at the back of the house.


Siglar got his wife, son and five pets out safely and tried to fight the fire with a garden hose.

About 50 firefighters from area volunteer fire departments arrived and doused the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Ring, VCR stolen in burglary

BOONSBORO - A Boonsboro woman returned home from a business trip Friday to find $2,200 worth of jewelry, a videocassette recorder and pewter wizard statues stolen, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Among the items stolen from 1 Fishing Creek Lane were a size-6 emerald ring worth $1,500, a Craig VCR worth $200 and 12 pewter statues of wizards holding crystal balls valued at $500, police said.

The home was broken into through a basement window and the lock from the basement door to the kitchen removed, police said.
