August 21, 1997

SMITHSBURG - A 37-year-old Smithsburg man was seriously injured a block from his home Thursday evening when he lost control of his motorcycle.

Mark Allen Timmons, of 13735 Frazier Road, was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to Baltimore Shock Trauma for a severe leg injury and a collarbone injury, according to Deputy John Updegraff of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

At about 5:15 p.m., Timmons, who was not wearing a helmet, lost control on a curve in the road and hit a tree at a high rate of speed, the deputy's report said. The accident occurred in the 13800 block of Frazier Road.

Updegraff said Timmons was returning to his home. The head and tail lights of the 1981 GS 750 Suzuki were damaged, but the cycle was not totaled, Updegraff said.
