HANCOCK - A Sunday morning fire destroyed a 1996 Ford Mustang worth $18,000, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

The car was found burning in a field near 14663 High Germany Road shortly after midnight the report said.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Steve Wendling said it is an arson case because the vehicle was stripped prior to the fire.

Seven firefighters from Orleans, Hancock and the Hancock Rescue Squad extinguished the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

Food stamps, cash and postage stamps were reported stolen Sunday from Weis Market on Massey Boulevard, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.


The 8:30 a.m. theft occurred when the store manager and employees were distracted, the report said, and the suspects left the area in a white Ford Taurus with no tags.
