Carville to speak at Jefferson dinner

CHARLES TOWN - Political consultant James Carville will be the guest speaker Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Jefferson County Democratic Association Dinner.

Carville, 52, is best known for managing President Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign. He now serves as a senior political advisor to the president.

In 1993 Carville was named Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants. The Louisiana native co-founded the political consulting firm of Carville & Begala in 1989.

He has also assisted campaigns in Greece and Brazil.

Carville is married to Mary Matalin, the deputy campaign manager of George Bush's 1992 re-election campaign. Separately and together they are frequent guests on political talk shows.

He recently formed the Education and Information Project. According to Carville's press biography, the group "is currently engaged in an educational campaign to inform the American people about the partisan activities of Kenneth Starr, the man charged with investigating the president."

The banquet will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. in the Avanti Restaurant at 119 E. Washington St. Tickets are $25 for county Democratic association members and $30 for non-members.
