August 16, 1997

WILLIAMSPORT - A citizen reported seeing someone around 8 p.m. Friday matching the description of Charles Elmer Carpenter, the killer who did not return to the Patuxent Institution from a weekend pass, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The reported sighting was at Donald M. Bowman's trucking terminal in Williamsport. Sheriffs checked out the report without finding anything, police said.

Carpenter, 32, murdered his grandmother 15 years ago near Clear Spring, and did not return before an 11:59 p.m. deadline Sunday night.
