Bell Atlantic driver injured

July 29, 1997

MARLOWE, W.Va. - West Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Interstate 81 in which the driver of a Bell Atlantic utility truck was critically injured.

Byron Larson, age and address unknown, was taken to Washington County Hospital following the 1 p.m. crash just north of Exit 23.

Trooper Richard Dyroff said the accident occurred when traffic slowed suddenly for a construction delay on the Potomac River bridge. One Bell Atlantic truck, seeing traffic slowing ahead, pulled from the lefthand lane into the median.

The truck in front of it, driven by Larson, was struck from behind by a Dodge truck pulling a large horse trailer driven by Raymond Maheu of Pawling, N.Y.

Dyroff said the impact forced Larson's head through the rear window of the utility truck.
