July 29, 1997

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - Two people were injured Monday afternoon in an accident involving six vehicles near the entrance to the General Motors center on W.Va. 9.

West Virginia State Police said the accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. when Steven Grant, 19, of Martinsburg, pulled out of a convenience store parking lot into oncoming traffic. His car was hit by a car driven by 83-year-old John Eckerd of Hedgesville.

The impact forced Grant's car into one driven by Daniel Martin, 74, of Clear Spring, Md. It then hit another car driven by 35-year-old Gloria Riggs of Martinsburg.

Grant's Chevy Beretta then went through a yard and struck two parked vehicles in a parking lot. He had to be freed from the wreckage and was taken to Martinsburg City Hospital where he was still being evaluated late Monday.
