Hagerstown City Councilman William Breichner said he wants warning signs at two city railroad crossings to be sterner.
The signs at the CSX crossings on Northern Avenue and Park Lane say: "Rough crossing. Use caution."
"It's not a rough crossing. It's a dangerous crossing," Breichner said during Tuesday night's mayor and council meeting.
"If you hit it at normal speed, you're going to get a rude awakening," Breichner said Thursday morning.
Breichner said he wants the signs to be better positioned so drivers can see them easier.
On Tuesday night, Breichner suggested large signs with flashing lights be placed in the middle of the road.
City officials are trying to meet with CSX Corp. and the state to have the crossings fixed.
