Tickets on sale for Antietam re-enactment

Tickets are now on sale for the 135th Commemorative Re-enactment of the Battle of Antietam Sept. 12-14, said Coordinator Greg Larson.

As many as 50,000 spectators and 15,000 re-enactors are expected to attend the event at the Artz Farm on Rench Road between Sharpsburg Pike and Downsville Pike.

Three phases of the Sept. 17, 1862, battle will be recreated by re-enactors - The Cornfield, "Bloody Lane" and A.P. Hill's assault.


Tickets can be purchased in advance at the following locations:

* Boonsboro - Boonsboro Pharmacy, 7628 Old National Pike.

* Chestnut Grove - K&M Grocery Store, 3406 Chestnut Grove Road.

* Downtown Hagerstown - The Maryland Symphony Orchestra, 13 S. Potomac St., and Saum's Jewelers, 2-4 W. Washington St.

* Halfway - Valley Mall, Halfway Boulevard.

* Sharpsburg - Sharpsburg Pharmacy, 17316 Shepherdstown Pike.

* South County - Himes' Store, 1324 Weaverton Road.

Residents can avoid ticket surcharges by purchasing their tickets through these local locations, Larson said.

Ticket prices for adults are $7.50 for a day if bought in advance, $9 that day and $12.50 for the weekend in advance.

For students between the ages of 7 and 18, tickets cost $4 for a day if purchased in advance, $6 that day and $7.50 for the weekend in advance.

Children 6 years old and younger will get in free.

Tickets bought through calling 1-888-248-4597 toll-free have two surcharges, Larson said. There is a $2.50 fee regardless of the number of tickets in the order and a 50-cent fee per ticket bought with a credit card, he said.
