"I get to vent," she added.
Seven-year-old Garrett Hamby said he's seen the movie version of "The Wizard of Oz" lots of times. He thought awhile before saying that the Scarecrow is his favorite character. Being in the Escapade production is OK, according to the Williamsport Elementary School third-grader. Garrett said his older sister, Corey, also in the play, gets nervous before performing. He said he doesn't.
Like several of the other kids who auditioned for the musical, 10-year-old Karen Dunn sang "Happy Birthday" when she tried out. The Fairplay resident, who attends Springfield Middle School, likes playing the Munchkin coroner. She said she feels great on stage.
Kara Staley lives in Taneytown, Md. That's in Carroll County, 45 minutes from Hagerstown, but worth the ride for the 11-year-old who is home schooled. Kara is a dancer who has been on stage in recitals and other plays. She said she's learned a lot from the older cast members, but she doesn't have a favorite part.
"I like it all," she said.
