Terminix to close Hagerstown office

July 22, 1997

Terminix International will close its Hagerstown office by late September as part of a national consolidation, a company vice president said Tuesday.

"We intend to be very viable and active in the Hagerstown area," said Bill Young, vice president of people services for the pest control business.

Contracts made by customers through the 947 Commonwealth Ave. office in Hagerstown will be honored, Young said. Those contracts will be handled through other offices, including those in Cumberland, Md., and Altoona, Pa.

As many as possible of the 15 to 20 employees at the Hagerstown office will be transferred to other offices, Young said from the company's headquarters in Memphis, Tenn.

Terminix began consolidating its offices in 1996 because the larger branches provide more operating efficiency, Young said.

The Hagerstown office's customers will receive mailings informing them of the consolidation and assuring them their contracts will be honored, he said.
