Agency receiving $460,000 from Gaming Commission

The Washington County Fire and Rescue Association will receive a $460,000 check from the Washington County Gaming Commission covering tip jar proceeds for the past six months, association Treasurer Charles Shindle said Thursday.

The payment will be split among the association's 27 companies, with about $17,000 going to each company.

Sharpsburg Ambulance Co. is placed on probation

The Washington County Fire and Rescue Association has placed the Sharpsburg Ambulance Co. on probation for a month due to staffing problems, Association President Jay Grimes said Thursday.

The ambulance company needs more volunteers, and the association will try to help the company meet staffing needs, Grimes said. If the situation had persisted it could have ultimately affected service, Grimes said.

Funds and Ford approved

The Washington County Commissioners, in addition to giving the Washington County Fire and Rescue Association $29,000 to hire a new administrative assistant, donated a used Ford Crown Victoria for the assistant to drive, association President Jay Grimes said Thursday.

A committee has been appointed to hire a new assistant, Grimes said.
