Man arrested on vehicle charges

Russell Wayne Wagner, 45, of the 11000-block of Pheasant Trail, was arrested Tuesday and charged with driving a vehicle with a stolen license tag, Maryland State Police said.

Wagner also was charged with driving on a revoked license, police said.

He was stopped at the intersection of Halfway Boulevard and the Downsville Pike by Cpl. G.L. Barnhart. The plate on his vehicle was found to have been stolen from a 1984 Ford Pinto station wagon, police said.

Woman accosted at Martin's store

Hagerstown City Police were looking for a man who accosted a woman as she was getting out of her car at Martin's Supermarket on Wesel Boulevard Wednesday around 11 p.m.


The woman told police the man grabbed her purse and tried to run but she gave chase, screaming for help.

People from the store came out to assist her and the man fled on foot, dropping the woman's change purse as he ran, police said.

The man was described as having a light-skinned black complexion, 5 feet 8 inches tall, in his 20s. He was wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

The woman wasn't hurt, police said. The loss was $10.

Boys seen trying to break into shed

CLEAR SPRING - Three boys were seen Wednesday evening trying to break into a shed at the Fairview Outdoor School at 12808 Draper Road.

Two of the boys were said to have dark hair while the third had light hair, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies. All were wearing T-shirts and shorts, deputies said.

Gun stolen from Jefferson Street

A Ruger Black Hawk .38-caliber revolver was stolen from 455 Jefferson St. Wednesday, Hagerstown City Police said.

Guns taken from Sharpsburg home

Maryland State Police were investigating the Monday theft of four weapons from an unlocked house at 18532 Mountain Lock Hill Road, Sharpsburg.

Taken were a Winchester Model 140 12-gauge shotgun, a 30/30 Winchester rifle, a .45-caliber CVA black powder revolver and a High Standard .22-caliber revolver, police said.

Money missing from farm stand

Money was found missing Wednesday from the Greensburg Farms stand at 17835 Virginia Ave., according to Maryland State Police.

The theft is considered a felony since the amount was over $300, police said.

Brush fire damages 3 buildings in W.Va.

SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. - A brush fire Thursday night damaged three buildings, including a barn, a greenhouse and a storage shed in a field off Hawthorne Lane in Summit Point, fire officials said.

The alarm came in shortly before 8 p.m., said Ed Smith, Chief of the Independent Fire Co. in Charles Town, W.Va.

Smith estimated the damage to the buildings at $5,000.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined. Units from Citizens and South Berkeley fire departments also responded.

Man arrested on crack charges

FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick City Police arrested a 21-year-old man at the intersection of West South Street and Ice Street at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday night on crack cocaine distribution charges.

Jovan Teacko Johnson, of no fixed address, was charged with distribution of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack, possession of crack and making a false statement to a police officer, police said.

Johnson was released to a parent, police said.
