Teachers would have to work an additional year to be considered for tenure under a resolution passed Tuesday by the Washington County Board of Education.
Teachers now can be considered for tenure after two years of service.
The board agreed that more time is needed for the success of a teacher to be determined and for tenure to be granted.
The resolution will be forwarded to the Maryland Association of Boards of Education for possible inclusion in its legislative agenda.
If MABE approves the resolution, it would have to ask the state Board of Education to expand the two-year requirement.
