SHARPSBURG - Sharpsburg Town Councilwoman Denise Troxell, who had a double lung transplant in May, began her first day of rehabilitation on Tuesday, according to her brother.
Troxell was moved out of the intensive care unit at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on June 28, Lee Rollins said from his sister's hospital room on Tuesday night.
"She's in great spirits. She's right on schedule," said Rollins. Troxell isn't expected to return home for at least a month.
Rollins said his sister appreciated all the cards, thoughts and prayers from residents back home.
She is building back her strength through physical and occupational therapy at the hospital's rehab unit, Rollins said.
Troxell, 42, of 114 S. Mechanic St., had damaged lungs and had waited for about two years for a transplant before being flown to the hospital for the May 20 operation.
