Texas man dies from injuries

June 26, 1997

HALFWAY - A 58-year-old Texas man whose tractor-trailer overturned on an off-ramp on Interstate 81 Tuesday evening has died of his injuries, Maryland State Police said.

Gerald Elliott Davis, of Princeton, Tex., was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m., according to a spokesman at the Washington County Hospital.

The southbound vehicle, which was hauling tar paper, turned over on the driver's side as it was headed for the westbound lane of Interstate 70 around 8:50 p.m., police said.

Trooper 1st Class Robert Care said speed was a factor in the crash.

The accident trapped Davis in the truck for about 30 to 45 minutes. The southbound lane of I-81 was closed for about 45 minutes while a Maryland State Police helicopter landed.
