An ice-cold Lollipop

June 24, 1997

The Lollipop has been around for a while, according to Mike Byers, owner of Byers Stop-N-Go in Hagerstown. He's been selling the treat at the Burhans Plaza site for nearly 10 years, and his family's Williamsport store has been making them for about 15 years. He says he remembers hearing that someone in Funkstown had made Lollipops years ago, but he created their present-day formula. Shaved ice - snow cone ice - with one of 12 available flavors is placed in the bottom of a cup. Next comes chocolate or vanilla ice cream, more ice and flavoring, then it's topped with more ice cream.

Byers sells a lot of Lollipops and says he guesses people could try to make them at home. "It wouldn't be as good as it is here," he adds.
