Hagerstown City Councilman William M. Breichner told Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II that he should have invited all of the council members to a West End neighborhood watch meeting on Monday night rather than just the two newcomers.
"It gets us all on the same sheet of music," Breichner said toward the end of Tuesday's work session. Breichner brought up the matter after Councilman J. Wallace "Wally" McClure thanked Bruchey for the invitation.
Bruchey agreed that he should have invited all of the council members, but said his initial thought was that the incumbents were already familiar with the West End residents' concerns.
Bruchey said he felt lucky to get McClure, Boyer and Police Chief Dale Jones to the meeting on short notice.
Several West End residents took a first step toward reconciling their differences during the Monday meeting.
Older residents were concerned about youths hanging out on the corner of George and Winter streets and making noise late at night, while the youths said they needed a place to hang out.
