8 rescued in Frederick fire

June 08, 1997

FREDERICK, Md. - Eight people were rescued from a balcony during a two-alarm fire in a downtown apartment building Saturday night, according to fire officials.

None of the people - a mix of adults and children who live in the building - were injured, said Lt. Jerry Dorsey of United Fire Co.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, which resulted in heavy smoke and heat damage to the second floor of the building at 362 W. Patrick St., Dorsey said.

The fire started somewhere on the second floor, he said.

The call came in at 11:35 p.m., and it took about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control, Dorsey said.

Firefighters were at the scene until about 2:45 a.m., he said.

All four city fire departments assisted, Dorsey said.

No damage estimate was available, he said.
