Man charged in fire scare

May 20, 1997

Hagerstown firefighters responding to a fire call Saturday afternoon at South Potomac and Baltimore streets encountered a man walking toward them in the middle of the street, authorities said.

A few minutes later, the Cumberland, Md., man was in custody, charged with pulling a false fire alarm, according to Hagerstown Fire Marshal Tom Brown.

Robert Joseph Scott, 32, also was charged by Hagerstown City Police with obstructing and hindering free passage, police said.

Held over the weekend, Scott appeared before Washington County District Judge Ralph France Monday for a bond review. Bond was set at $1,000 for both charges.
