EDC delays filling director's post

May 15, 1997

The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission won't have a director before July, officials said Wednesday.

The EDC has not had a director since the County Commissioners relieved Richard Palmer of his EDC duties on Oct. 25, 1995.

The EDC board plans to re-advertise for candidates in the coming weeks with a tentative closing date of July 3, said Washington County Personnel Director Alan Davis.

When the position was advertised early this year with an application deadline in February about 35 people applied, Davis said.

The Washington County Commissioners and the EDC board negotiated with one candidate but that fell through when the candidate refused to move to Washington County, Davis said.

Department heads and division directors are required to live in the county, he said.
