Man charged in Pa. chase

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A Waynesboro man led police on a chase through the borough early Saturday before he lost control of his car in a Washington Township parking lot.

Kevin Ray Reese, 24, of 219 Walnut St., was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing police, driving under suspension, reckless driving and four counts each of failing to stop for a stop sign and recklessly endangering another person, according to charging documents.

Reese was placed in Franklin County Prison on $15,000 bond, police said.

At about 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Waynesboro Patrolman Rodney Zwigart and Cpl. William Kauffman saw a 1990 black Ford Mustang heading east on West Main Street swerve in front of their marked police cruiser going in the opposite direction, according to charging documents.


The owner of the vehicle was in the passenger seat, charging documents state.

After turning around, Zwigart pursued the vehicle that turned right down an alley, according to court records. The vehicle was forced to stop because of oncoming traffic and police pulled in behind the vehicle, court records state.

The driver was motioning to the oncoming vehicle to back up and as police got out of their car, the driver sped off, charging documents state.

Police pursued the vehicle on several streets before reaching West Main Street, where the vehicle reached a speed of 80 mph, according to court records.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and spun out after making a right turn into a lot after crossing the borough line where a Washington Township police cruiser was waiting, court records state.

Reese was not injured.
