May 10, 1997

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Kearneysville, W.Va., man who was charged in the abduction of a 7-year-old girl this week was arraigned Friday on a felony charge of nighttime burglary, entering without breaking, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Leonard Austin Ellinger's bond was increased from $700,000 to $750,000 after his arraignment, officials said.

Ellinger, 32, already is facing a charge of abduction, which carries a prison sentence of between three and 10 years. The nighttime burglary, entering without breaking, charge carries a prison sentence of one to 10 years.

The girl was abducted Monday night or early Tuesday as she and her two brothers slept in their mobile home in the Middle Creek Villages trailer park near Inwood. She was taken to a remote section of western Jefferson County where she told police she was sexually assaulted.
