HANCOCK - Hancock has been awarded a $74,932 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to help repair the town's Sanitary Pump Station, according to U.S. Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Paul Sarbanes.
The grant, combined with a $50,000 grant from the state, will be nearly enough to pay for the station, said former Hancock public works director Greg Murray. A small local match will still be required, Murray said.
The waste water pump station was flooded out three times last year, twice requiring major repairs, Murray said. Once the construction is complete, the new station will be protected from floods, he said. The electrical equipment used to run the station will be out of the flood plain and the pumps will be insulated underground.
