Washington County Regional Airport was awarded a $1.05 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett and Maryland Sens. Paul Sarbanes and Barbara Mikulski.
The money will help resurface taxiway C, install a precision approach path indicator to aid pilots heading south to land on the north-south runway, level off rock outcroppings and purchase easements to trim trees north of the airport, said operations coordinator Brandon Taksa.
Taxiway C is about 3,300 feet long and parallels the north-south runway.
"The taxiway is in poor shape right now," Taksa said. The taxiway is developing cracks and other defects, he said.
