We encourage every citizen of Western Maryland to call or write Rep. Bartlett, Sens. Mikulski and Sarbanes and ask them to support our proposals to combat Alzheimer's disease by encouraging Congress to allocate $355 million for Alzheimer research, modernize Medicare to meet the needs to the chronically ill more appropriately and effectively, and to maintain the Medicaid safety net for families who exhaust their own savings in paying for years of expensive long term care.

To learn how you can join the fight against Alzheimer's disease, call the Western Maryland Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at 1-301-696-0315 or 1-800-696-6830.

A lovely sign

To the editor:

I wanted to comment on the nice sign advertisement that you pass by to get on Prospect Street. "Happiness is helping others."

I'm not one for advertisements whether on TV, radio, newspaper or outside, unless they're particularly cute, funny or informative. It's a nice statement that most of us need to appreciate and abide by.

In fact I hope whoever ran that advertisement (since it doesn't say) keeps it up for good. It's nice to look at and I think, in my opinion, that it is a good form of advertisement.
