Mail call

April 10, 1997

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call weekdays at 791-6236.

Readers are welcome to leave their recorded message on any topic they choose, but some calls are screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"After hearing about all those new Romanian bottle fish in the Conococheague I too, thought that I'd share a little experience on a fish that I had. It's called the Romanian-I-have-no-life-so-I-called-into-Mail-Call-Pranking-Fish. This pathetic little creature swims around in the creek and it feeds on all the left garbage and all the disposable waste dumped into it. It has no life and it wastes its time all the time calling Mail Call to make up some odd stories. Let's hope we can make this fish extinct."

"A liberals approach to reality - ban all firearms. A conservatives approach to reality - fight crime, shoot back."

"Do any Mail Caller's know when the sewer project starts in the Paradise Homes area? If so, respond to Mail Call."

"There's no escaping the fact. The term `Saturday Night Special' is a Bradyism and like all isms, communism, socialism, and liberalism is a part of the great lie and not to be believed."

"Hey, this is for the person who said about how much he respected Bubba Clinton. Well, that goes to show you that you're the kind of person that doesn't have the brains to think for yourself. Anybody that respects somebody like that doesn't know any better. I respect the office that he holds but I have no respect for him. He deserves none."

"According to many Mail Callers, Commissioners Wade, Snook, Downey and Shank are against the working man because they decertified the union. I'd say these callers have it backwards. The only thing unions are for are the working man's money, his dues. The union sure didn't help my working man husband keep his 21-year job at Londontown. The union only sold him out, never even giving him a change to vote to work with the company to keep the jobs in this country. Keep up the good work commissioners. Let's get rid of all the money hungry unions. The whole country will be much better for it."

"I'd like to say that I'm overwhelmed with the job that the commissioners are doing. I'm very pleased and I hope they continue to stay in office until I retire. Incidentally, for anyone that would like to know, I sell real estate in the Martinsburg and Frederick area. Business has been great."

"And yet another firefighter in The Herald-Mail without his gear on using a hose to extinguish a fire out at Broadway. Isn't it a shame? And we're always complaining about our firefighters and how they save our lives. Well, if you wonder why they're getting hurt, it's probably because they're not wearing any gear. Maybe we should look into that."

"Cheap guns are not un-American, lying anti-gun liberals are un-American."

"If there's anyone living in Hagerstown or Washington County or the surrounding areas by the name of Billy Jones or maybe he's called Billy Fiser, I used to run around with him when I was a kid and I haven't seen him in probably 50 some years. I'd just like to know if he's still around and if he is, I wish he'd respond to Mail Call."

"May I add to the comment from the Mail Call in Monday's newspaper and the statement `how much lower do you think you could possibly get?' Not low enough. They're so low that they can't see the bottom when they look up. The all seeing eye is watching. This is the third time flowers have been stolen. What are you doing with these flowers. Do you know?"

"This is to the grave thieves at Cedar Lawn. You have taken flowers and personal things off my daughter's grave four times and at Christmas you removed five things. Now her birthday, April 5, you took her flowers and balloons again. Just remember that you are being watched at all times and what goes around comes around and God will punish you."

"According to Tuesday's Daily Mail, Maryland income taxes are going to be lower for each of the next five years and there will be a $30 million surplus in the budget. All this done by a majority of Democrat politicians in Annapolis. A tax cut and balancing the state budget, maybe those state Democratic politicians are Republicans in sheep's clothing. What do you think all you conservatives? Maybe now you should give credit where credit is due, to the governor and the predominately Democratic state lawmakers."

"I thought I was downwind of the sewage plant from the odor and I called City Hall and found out that I was wrong. A council meeting was going on this afternoon."

"Now if only the U.S. Congress and U.S. Senate can come up with a tax cut, no tax increases and balanced budget like the Maryland law makers did. Oh - I forgot. The State and the House are ruled by Republicans aren't they? Never mind."
