CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A 28-year-old Chambersburg man was being held on $65,000 bond Wednesday after guards at the Franklin County Prison discovered crack cocaine and marijuana during a strip search, state police said.
Herman Charles Staten, whose address was unavailable, was arrested Tuesday by Chambersburg Borough Police on a bench warrant on charges of simple assault, harassment and stalking.
Staten was taken to the Pennsylvania State Police barracks, then to the prison where he was searched before being jailed on the bench warrant charges, police said. The strip search revealed a "large amount of crack cocaine and marijuana hidden on or inside his body," police said.
Staten was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana following the search, according to a spokeswoman for District Justice Larry Meminger.
