Stadium repairs to be ready by opening day

March 27, 1997

The cinder block wall that collapsed at Municipal Stadium last June from the force of heavy rains flooding Town Run should be replaced with a chain link fence by opening day for the Hagerstown Suns.

City Council members unanimously approved bids from three Hagerstown companies on Tuesday night for work related to the wall, which should be done by April 15.

The contracts were awarded to:

  • Henson & Son, Inc. to pave, remove sod, demolish the remaining wall and do drainage work for $7,300.
  • Ellsworth Electric to install conduit for scoreboard wiring and the sound system, which were attached to the wall that collapsed, for $4,000.
  • Horst Fencing to install the eight-foot, chain link fence with plastic inserts for screening for $3,200.
