Washington County Commissioners hired Greg Murray as the director of the Water and Sewer Department Tuesday night.
Murray, now director of utilities and public works in Hancock, previously was the supervisor of operations for the Washington County Sanitary District, county Public Works Director Gary Rohrer said.
Rohrer said there were 11 applicants for the position and said some educational requirements were waived because of Murray's past experience and "intimate background and familiarity with the facilities."
Rohrer noted that Murray quit working for the Sanitary District when he wasn't satisfied with the operation.
"Greg is not part of the old guard," Rohrer said. "Greg separated himself from the old guard because they were not operating to acceptable standards," Rohrer said.
