Each day, some 1,700 people are diagnosed with diabetes. It is more common amoung African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asian Americans or Pacific Islanders. You are at higher risk if:
- You are older than 45
- You are overweight
- You do not exercise regularly
- You have a family history of diabetes
- You are a woman who has had a baby weighed more than 9 pounds at birth
