MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Gerrardstown man was killed early Wednesday morning when his car ran off Union Corner Road and struck a tree, according to West Virginia State Police.

Brian Sean McDougald, 21, a 1995 graduate of Musselman High School, worked at the Bob Evans Restaurant in Martinsburg and was a member of the 167th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia Air National Guard in Martinsburg.

"He was very well liked. It's a shock," said McDougald's mother, Frances McDougald.

McDougald was driving a 1994 Hyundai at high speed on Union Corner Road about a mile off W.Va. 45 when the car went off the road in a curve, Trooper D.M. Olack said.

McDougald, the only person in the car, was dead at the scene, Olack said.

Frances McDougald said her son had told her he had worked out at Rando's 2001 Salon and Fitness Center in Pikeside and was on his way to visit a friend.

The accident occurred about 1:08 a.m., police said.

McDougald worked for security police at the Air National Guard, his mother said.
