NEW YORK - Alan J. Noia, president and CEO of Allegheny Power System Inc., has been named chairman of the company, the utility said in a release.
He will succeed Klaus Bergman, who will retire as chairman of Allegheny, effective May 8, the date of the company's annual meeting of shareholders, the release said.
Noia, 50, who has been with the company since 1969, also is chairman, president and CEO of Allegheny's principal subsidiaries.
"I have known and worked with Klaus for nearly 25 years. No one in the company's history has been more dedicated or added more value. I will personally miss his advice and counsel," Noia said.
Allegheny Power is an electric utility holding company. Its subsidiaries provide electric service to 1.4 million customers in parts of Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
