Williamsport voters fill town posts

WILLIAMSPORT - Independent Progressives topped Independents in Williamsport's town election Monday.

Mayor John Slayman, 64, of 30 W. Potomac St., ran unopposed for his fourth term as mayor. He received 186 votes, he said.

James Black, 51, of 27 E. Sunset Ave., won a third term as assistant mayor, defeating Earle Pereschuk Sr., 44, of 129 E. Sunset Ave., 130 votes to 107. Pereschuk, an Independent, was elected to a seat on the council two years ago.

Walter Tracy Jr., 47, of 24 S. Conococheague St., won a third term on the council with 162 votes. Roxann Long, 29, received 173 votes for her first time on the council.

Independent Steve Pierce Sr., 39, of 49 E. Church St., received 94 votes.

Slayman said 244 ballots were cast. There are 1,300 eligible voters.
