SMITHSBURG - Alexis Nogle and Tracey Leather made Smithsburg High School's Senior Night memorable.

Nogle had eight assists, five steals and six rebounds, while Leather added 10 rebounds, leading Smithsburg to a 56-26 victory over South Hagerstown Tuesday night.

Smithsburg concludes regular-season play at 13-7 overall, 11-7 in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League. South Hagerstown finishes at 2-18, 2-16.

Another Smithsburg senior, Jenny Martin, made two early baskets, and the Leopards took a quick 6-3 lead. Smithsburg led 10-7 after the first quarter.

"Jenny Martin hit a couple of outside shots in the beginning and that got us going," Smithsburg coach Jimmy Powell said. "She is a quiet leader on the team. She leads by example."

The Leopards went on an 11-2 run to take a 21-9 lead four minutes into the second quarter. Smithsburg led, 29-13, at halftime.

The Leopards put together an 11-0 run in the middle of the third quarter and extended their lead to 44-20 by the end of the period.

Rachel Bachtell collected 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Smithsburg. Carey Brennan added 10 points and six rebounds. Casey Nogle and Martin had three steals each.

"It was Senior Night and all five seniors contributed in some way," Powell said. "We try to feature the seniors on the last game, because they have stuck with the program for all of this time."

Dee Ecton scored 10 points to lead South. Emily Middlekauff added nine rebounds, eight steals and four assists. Kristin Harne grabbed 10 rebounds. Stacey Zeger and Catie Hoffman each added seven rebounds.

"We shot the ball poorly," South Hagerstown coach Anne Whisner said. "We have improved defensively throughout the season, but we just don't score. Smithsburg has got a nice team. They work well together. They outplayed us offensively. They cut to the ball better than we did."
