Bond raised in abduction case

February 25, 1997

Bond was raised Tuesday from $15,000 to $25,000 on a city man charged with abducting a 2-year-old child and assaulting a woman.

Washington County District Judge Noel Spence raised the bond for Harry William Deneen III, 19, of 139 Randolph Ave., at a bond review hearing.

Deneen is charged with abducting a child under the age of 12, second-degree assault and driving a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.

Shannon Marie Smith, 18, told deputies that a man assaulted her at a Youngstoun Drive home at about 10 a.m. Monday and then left with the child in her 1987 Oldsmobile. About two hours later, deputies found a man with the child in the car, police said.

Deputy State's Attorney Charles Strong told Spence that Deneen had no parental right nor legal authority to take the child.

A preliminary hearing is set for March 5.
