The owners of the former Finley's American Restaurant at 1100 Dual Highway in Hagerstown are looking for a buyer for the property.

Finley's had been here since the mid-1980s and employed between 45 and 60 full- and part-time employees when it closed on Nov. 24, according to Controller Todd Pahl of River City Food Co., parent company of the restaurant chain.

River City is based in Michigan.

The Hagerstown Finley's was the only one in Maryland, Pahl said.

As part of an effort to "keep our company healthy," Pahl said the Hagerstown restaurant and three others in Pennsylvania that weren't considered profitable were closed at about the same time.

Since January, Pahl said the Dual Highway property has been shown about once a week to prospective buyers. Others have offered to lease the building, but Pahl said River City "doesn't want to be in the landlord business."

"We'd like to sell it to someone who would open another quality restaurant for Hagerstown residents," Pahl said.
