MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - North Hagerstown split a tri-meet at Martinsburg High School Monday night, fending off the Bulldogs, 43-33, and losing to Northern Garrett's Huskies, 39-21.

Seth Staley (130) wrestled like a man on a mission, aggressively pinning both Eric Neely of Martinsburg and Paul Beitzel of Northern Garrett. Seth's brother Kane (135) used his patented ankle pick to pin Adam Brenneman, then scored a fall against Martinsburg's Farriel Morrison.

Jason Romburger (140) scra-tched out an overtime victory over Matt Kauffman in a continuous battle for control, then dominated Martinsburg's Ryan Ice, 14-0.

Ian Young (103), Richie Dean (112), David Curry (125), and John Skraback (160) each pinned once. Chris Dempsher (145) had his hands full defending the single-leg shots of Martinsburg's Jason Koch, but won, 9-6. Ryan Romburger (152) took a forfeit, but the Hubs gave up forfeits at 215 and 275 to the Bulldogs.

Martinsburg's much-improved Josh Staubs (103) scored a 12-7 upset of third-ranked Hub Ian Young, and a 14-0 major decision over Northern's Brandon Stein. Teammate Brad Davis (119) defeated Northern's Jimmy Warnick, 4-1, then shot a double leg on North's Langley Dean to pin him in the first period. Trampus Boyles (171) pinned North's Nick Fignar, wrestling in only his second varsity match , while Scotty Boyles (215) pinned Northern's Ryan Savage. State contender Josh Jackson (189) took a forfeit against the Huskies, then quickly pinned North back-up Eric Arvidson.

Northern Garrett showed no respect to either opponent, thumping Martinsburg, 50-19 before the win over North.

"We've finished second to Francis Scott Key in the State Duals for two years in a row," said Huskies coach Scott Staugh. "We're tired of it."

Jesse Shimrock (112), E. J. Scofield (125), undefeated Jimmy Green (145) and John Durst (160) were double winners for the Huskies.
