January 23, 1997

A former Williamsport man was sentenced to 18 months in the Washington County Detention Center recently for the July robbery of Express Cleaners.

Barry Cleveland Beggarly Jr., 24, of Dam No. 4 Road, pleaded guilty to robbery during a suppression hearing in Washington County Circuit Court in early January.

Originally, Judge John H. McDowell sentenced Beggarly to six years in prison and suspended all but the 18-month term in the county jail.

Beggarly will be on probation for three years when he is released. He also was fined $500.

Maryland State Police arrested Beggarly after finding him hiding under a mattress at an apartment in the 100 block of Manor Drive.
