HANCOCK - A 37-year-old Hancock woman died early Friday when the car she was riding in crashed into a utility pole on Md. 144 just west of Roundtop Road.
Rebecca Elaine Faith was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 1:47 a.m. accident.
Deputy Richard Schleigh of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said the accident occurred when a 1989 Ford Mustang, driven by Timothy Lee Keefer, 19, of Hancock, failed to retain control in an eastbound curve and skidded along a snow-covered bank before hitting the pole on the passenger side.
Keefer was in fair condition Friday night at Washington County Hospital, hospital officials said.
Schleigh said speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
The investigation is continuing.
