WAYNESBORO, Pa. - An intruder broke into a Washington Township, Pa., home Monday night and shot a man three times before fleeing, according to Washington Township Police.

Authorities believe the same man might then have traveled to Wolfsville, Md., where he fatally shot a second person, said Washington Township Police Chief Kurt Braun.

No information on either shooting victim was available.

In Pennsylvania, an intruder entered the 10984 Gehr Road house from the patio area at the rear of the home, Braun said.

A man who was downstairs in the house was shot at about 11 p.m., Braun said. A woman was in the house at the time of the shooting, he said.

Shell casings were found on the floor of the house, which is several miles north of Waynesboro, Braun said.

Braun said he believed the weapon used in the shooting was a semi-automatic handgun. A medical crew took the injured man out of the house at 11:40 p.m.

Maryland State Police in Frederick County said a man was arrested in the shootings, but would not provide details.

Braun said a suspect was apprehended by Maryland State Police and the Frederick County's Sheriff Department at Interstate 70 and Ridge Road between Frederick and Myersville, Md.

Braun said no motive had been determined.
