Police say W.Va. man walked into vehicle

November 30, 1996

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - A man was injured Friday morning after he walked into a moving vehicle, police said.

Lester Young, 79, was taken to War Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a hospital official said.

Berkeley Springs Police Chief Vincent Ducellier said Young, who lives just outside of town, tried to cross the intersection of North Washington Street and Independent Street at about 11:50 a.m.

He struck a "very slowly" moving Isuzu Trooper driven by James E. Shuke, 35, of New Market, Va., Ducellier said.

Shuke was traveling through town on his way to Bedford, Pa., for the holiday weekend, he said.

Young had minor injuries to his shoulder and ankle. No charges have been filed against Shuke but the investigation is continuing, Ducellier said.
