Washington Township wins DARE grant

November 29, 1996

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Washington Township's DARE program has received a $20,516 grant from the state, according to the township police department.

The township had applied for the Pennsylvania Drug Education and Law Enforcement grant several times before but had not received funding, said Police Chief Kurt Braun.

The money could offset falling donations to the program and likely won't result in an increase in DARE programs, Braun said.

Through the program, township officers teach local students to avoid drugs, Braun said.
