OCALA, Fla. - Hagerstown Junior College's starting lineup went through another shakeup as Devin Wade started at center and scored 24 points Thursday to lift the Hawks to a 101-86 victory over Polk (Fla.) Community College in the first round of Pepsi Challenge at Central Florida Community College.
DeWayne Jacobs became HJC's newest starter, taking over at small forward. The freshman ignited a 15-4 game-opening run by the Hawks (4-0), an advantage they never relinquished.
Jacobs finished 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. James Morse scored 19 points, James Stokes added 13 and Ryan Saunders added 12 for HJC. Justin Williams led Polk (8-4) with 23 points.
Polk made a run at HJC to get with in 49-40 in the final seconds of the first half. But Saunders hit a 3-point basket at the buzzer to give HJC a 12-point lead and the momentum heading into the lockerroom.
