Shopping center planned for Eastern Blvd.

November 26, 1996

A local developer wants to build a small strip shopping center on Eastern Boulevard south of Professional Court.

The $500,000, one-story shopping center, which would open by spring, would include a new drugstore and the office of a certified public accountant who is planning to relocate, said developer Richard McCleary, who also is part owner of the roughly 1-acre lot.

The 7,500-square-foot building would be located at the intersection of Eastern Boulevard and Opal Court, a road that the developer would be responsible for constructing, said Deborah Everhart, Hagerstown's economic development coordinator and zoning administrator.

The Hagerstown Planning Commission will consider whether to approve the site plan for the shopping center at its Dec. 11 meeting, Everhart said.

McCleary said he is in negotiations with two other businesses to open at the shopping center, which should have space for five businesses.
