Nine people were arrested on drug-related charges Thursday after police found a substantial amount of crack cocaine and heroin in a room at the Wellesley Inn in Hagerstown, according to agents of the Washington County Narcotics Task Force.

Police were called to the Dual Highway motel at about 1:45 p.m. to investigate a complaint of suspicious activity in one of the rooms, police said.

Police set up surveillance of the room and observed its occupants go across the street to a restaurant.

After they returned, police saw several people enter through a first floor window.

Police entered the room at about 3:30 p.m. As they did, four of the occupants tried to flee through a window but were apprehended, police said.
